Kiwanis member Howard Austin then recognized Key Club sponsor Janet Banister and thanked her for all her hard work and dedication. “All of the adults, thank you so much for caring enough about these young people to let them know how much you love them, how much you respect them, and how much we know you are a great hope for the future for all of us.” “Young people, I’m so proud of you,” Elliott said. After explaining and giving examples of her four tenants of leadership, she expressed appreciation to the students for their accomplishments and the Kiwanis members for recognizing the students’ achievements. “We need leaders from your generation,” Elliott told them. Elliott then took the podium and encouraged the honorees to become leaders in their home state of Arkansas and suggested four things for them to consider in that endeavor: empathy, resilience/persistence, humility, and civic engagement.
